The 7/60th participated in the “Raid on Backus Mills” event near Port Rowan, Ontario on the weekend of 8/9 September 2012, commemorating the American raids into south-western Ontario in 1814. Despite a spectacular thunder and lightning storm on the Friday night, the weather cooperated for the remainder of the weekend, enabling the unit to practice its small unit tactics in the historic pioneer village, itself centred upon the surviving grist mill, which evaded burning by American forces two hundred years ago. On the Sunday, the detachments of the 7/60th and 49th Regiments formed together, both for the battle demonstrations, and to practice ceremonial drill for the major War of 1812 Bicentennial event taking place at Queenston Heights in October.
